Passengers departing from Dublin Airport will now be able to enjoy a simpler, less stressful time through security screening.
Liquids, gels and electronics can now remain inside hand luggage at both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
The airport confirmed it has now eased the security screening, following the installation of around 30 new “C3” scanners across the airport.
At the same time, the long-standing 100ml liquid limit is being relaxed, with passengers now able to take through up to 2 litres, and they no longer need to use clear plastic bags.
“The new C3 scanners are best in class in terms of security detection standards and they significantly enhance the passenger experience,” said Gary McLean, Dublin Airport managing director.
McLean added that 96% of travellers using the new scanners in the peak summer season cleared security in under 20 minutes.
Kenny Jacobs, chief executive of daa, meanwhile, commented: "Dublin Airport is one of the first airports of its size in Europe to have this technology in place for every passenger."
Cork Airport is expected to follow with similar changes soon, with a new mezzanine-level expansion to house C3 scanners.
