This policy explains what personal data We Are Guests collects, why, how we look after it, and the rights you have over it. We aim to collect as little as we reasonably can, and to be plain about what we do.

Who We Are

We Are Guests is operated by Creamery Media Ltd, which is the data controller for the personal data described here. We can be reached at editorial@weareguests.net for any privacy question. Our Ownership & Funding page sets out who is behind the publication.

Information We Collect

Information you give us

  • When you contact us. If you email us — feedback, a correction, a coverage suggestion, a query — we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message.
  • If you subscribe to updates. Where we offer an email newsletter or updates, we collect the email address you provide for that purpose.

Information collected automatically

  • Technical data. Like most websites, our hosting infrastructure records standard technical information when you visit — such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you view — for security and to keep the site running.
  • Analytics. We use analytics to understand how the site is used, aggregated and used only to improve the site. We run two tools: Fathom Analytics, which is cookieless and stores no personal data, and Google Analytics 4, which we run with storage consent denied by default so that it sets no cookies either. Neither identifies you.

How We Use Your Data

  • To respond to your messages and handle corrections and feedback.
  • To send you updates or a newsletter, where you have asked us to.
  • To operate, secure, and improve the website.
  • To meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your contact details for unrelated marketing.

Cookies

Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We use only those needed to run the site. Neither of our analytics tools sets one: Fathom is cookieless by design, and Google Analytics runs with storage consent denied by default, so it never writes a cookie. If we introduce a consent banner later and you accept it, Google Analytics would then set first-party cookies to tell a returning browser from a new one — until you are asked and say yes, it does not.

You can control or block cookies through your browser settings, or opt out of Google Analytics entirely with Google's opt-out add-on — blocking analytics does not affect how the site works.

Affiliate Links and Third Parties

Some links on our site are affiliate links — see Ownership & Funding. When you follow a link to a booking partner or another website, that site has its own privacy policy, which governs any data you share with it. We are not responsible for the practices of sites we link to, and we encourage you to read their policies.

Sharing Your Data

We share personal data only where necessary: with service providers who help us run the site and our email (for example, hosting and email delivery providers), and where we are required to by law. Any such providers are expected to handle data securely and only as instructed.

How Long We Keep It

We keep personal data only as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected — for example, newsletter subscriptions until you unsubscribe, and correspondence for as long as is useful to handle the matter and any follow-up — after which it is deleted or anonymised.

Your Rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights over your personal data, including the right to:

  • Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
  • Ask us to correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete;
  • Ask us to delete your data, where there is no overriding reason to keep it;
  • Object to or ask us to restrict certain uses of your data;
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent;
  • Unsubscribe from any email updates, using the link in every message.

To exercise any of these, email editorial@weareguests.net. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you believe your data has been mishandled.

Children

We Are Guests is a travel publication written for the adults planning family trips. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

We may update this policy as the site or the law changes. The “last updated” date above always reflects the current version; material changes will be made clear.
