Ownership & Funding

You should know who is behind what you read and how it pays its way. We Are Guests is independently owned, funded mainly by affiliate links and partnerships, and run so that money never decides what we say about a place.

Who Owns We Are Guests

We Are Guests is owned and operated by Creamery Media Ltd, an independent media company. It is not owned by a hotel group, a cruise line, a theme park operator, a tour company, or a booking platform — and no such company has a stake in it or a say in its coverage.

The publication was founded by Jamie Ashcroft, who is its publisher and the person editorially accountable for what We Are Guests publishes. We Are Guests is a small, family-run operation; the people behind it are named on our Editorial Desk.

How We Are Guests Is Funded

A travel publication has to pay for itself somehow. We would rather tell you exactly how than leave you guessing. Our revenue comes from:

  • Affiliate links. When you book a hotel, ticket, or trip through some of our links, we may earn a small commission from the booking partner. It does not change the price you pay.
  • Commercial partnerships. We sometimes work with travel brands and operators on clearly labelled commercial content.
  • Advertising. Where we carry advertising, it is identifiable as advertising.

Anything with a commercial relationship behind it carries a clear label — the Ad badge, an affiliate disclosure, or a sponsorship note. You should never have to wonder whether something is paid for.

The Wall Between Money and Editorial

This is the part that matters most. Funding keeps the lights on; it does not decide what we say.

What commercial revenue never does:

  • Buy a good review, a high score, or a soft verdict.
  • Buy its way out of criticism, or get a negative point removed.
  • Decide what we cover, or what we choose to leave out.
  • Give an operator approval over our copy before it publishes.

How we hold that line:

  • We only carry affiliate links and partnerships for things we would genuinely recommend — and a commission never turns a poor place into a recommended one.
  • A review reaches its verdict first. Whether an affiliate link can then be added is a separate, later question — not an input into the verdict.
  • Where coverage touches a brand we have a commercial relationship with, we disclose the relationship in that coverage.
  • A commercial partner is held to the same editorial standards as anyone else we write about.

If honest coverage and a commercial relationship ever pull in opposite directions, honest coverage wins. We would rather lose the commission than mislead a reader who is about to spend real money on a real trip.

Editorial Independence

We Are Guests is editorially independent. No advertiser, affiliate partner, or commercial sponsor has the right to direct, approve, or veto editorial content. Editorial decisions are made by the editorial team on the basis of what is useful and honest for readers. The detail of that independence is set out in our Editorial Standards and Trust pages.
