Irish tourists set for Mexico's winter sun as Aer Lingus adds Cancun route

Cancun, Mexico’s tropical Caribbean resort, will be a hotspot on Irish travel calendars in 2026 thanks to Aer Lingus.

Ireland’s ‘flag carrier’ airline on Wednesday announced it is launching a direct route, flying from Dublin to Cancún starting in January.

Aer Lingus will operate a three-times-a-week service, using A330-300 aircraft, between 6 January and 29 April. The airline says its one-way fares will start at €291, including all taxes and charges.

“Our new direct route from Dublin to Cancún introduces a vibrant new destination to our network and further increases Aer Lingus’ winter sun offering,” said Aer Lingus CEO Lynne Embleton.

“Our research highlights a strong appetite amongst customers for new travel experiences, particularly seasonal destinations beyond the peak summer period.

She added: “Mexico, with its tropical climate, caters to the growing consumer demand for winter sun, while also offering a rich blend of history, culture, and cuisine.”

Set on Mexico’s dazzling Caribbean coast, it’s a favourite for guests craving sugar-white sands, turquoise water, and some of the world’s best all-inclusive luxury hotels.

Cancun and its surrounding areas are home to some of the world’s ‘mega’ tropical resorts - such as the Moon Palace, Dreams Vista, Hyatt Ziva and Hard Rock Hotel Cancun.

It's a destination that’s perfect for guests who love sipping cocktails by the pool, enjoying beachside massages, and indulgent resort dining.

Whether you’re after lively and energetic nightlight, found in downtown Cancun, long fun family days in the sun at the all-inclusive ‘mega resorts’, or the small and intensely luxurious adults-only resorts, there’s truly something for every type of guest.

Slightly further afield, meanwhile, guests will find excursions on the ocean, explore coastal towns like Playa del Carmen and Tulum, or adventure to the Mayan ruins rising out of the jungle.

If that’s not enough, the reef offers world-class snorkelling and diving. Then there are attractions like jungle ziplining and adventure parks, and authentic food experiences.

Aer Lingus noted that the addition of the new route coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ireland and Mexico.
