Princess Cruises new vessel, the Star Princess

Princess Cruises has announced that its new ship, Star Princess, has now passed sea trials with flying colours, setting the stage for a hotly anticipated maiden voyage.

Star Princess, a 'Sphere-Class' cruise ship, is scheduled for its maiden trip in early October - departing Barcelona on 4 October with an eleven-day round-trip calling at Marseille, Civitavecchia (Rome), Naples, Palermo, Cartagena, and Gibraltar.

Its inaugural season comprises sailings in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and Alaska.

The cruise ship, built by Fincantieri in Monfalcone, Italy, completed the sea trial over four days, passing steering, navigation, and propulsion tests. And, veteran Princess Cruises captain Gennaro Arma praised the ship’s “navigation capabilities and manoeuvrability.

"We confidently led Star Princess through sea trials," captain Arma said.

"With the final countdown underway, my incredible teammates and I can't wait to welcome guests aboard for unforgettable adventures this fall."

Final outfitting and preparation of the vessel is now underway, ahead of the maiden voyage.

Star Princess can carry 4,300 guests and it boasts more than 1,500 balcony staterooms. The 177,800-ton ship is a 'sister' vessel of the cruise line's Sun Princess ship, which launched last February. The ship is LNG fuelled.

The ship's signature spaces include 'The Dome', a relaxation and entertainment venue, and 'The Arena', which is described as Princess’ most advanced theater; and 'The Piazza', described as "the architectural centerpiece of the ship".

It also promises a "captivating speakeasy experience" at Spellbound, a bar collab with Hollywood brand Magic Castle.

For food-loving guests and those seeking relaxation, the new cruise ship has 30 dining and bar venues, and, the 'Sanctuary Collection' suites - which come with exclusive dining, access to a reserved pool and deck area, and high-end cabins - promise 'the very best of what Princess has to offer'.
