Myself, three of my sisters and our sister in law stayed in this hotel for two nights. It is a beautiful hotel. Fantastic reception area on arrival with a lovely warm and cosy atmosphere. Check in staff were very efficient and friendly. The hotel is very clean and tidy and the grounds are immaculate. Dining room is beautifully decorated. The bedrooms are lovely if a little on the dark side.
Unfortunately, it was very cold on the corridor, dining room and in our bedroom (100). I'm not trying to be funny when I say this but, it was warmer in our under counter fridge (it didn't work) than it was in our room. The hotel staff very obviously are aware of how cold the hotel is because we had a plug in heater in our room and there were plug in heaters placed in a few areas in the dining room area.
On the first morning at breakfast, we were so cold, we had to ask a member of staff to plug a heater in beside us.
I was very surprised to find this hotel was part of the FBD group. We've stayed in a few FBD hotels (most recently Faithlegg Hotel) and have never been anything but delighted with the whole aspect of our stay. This time, to be quite honest, The Heritage hotels food left an awful lot to be desired. The food was the most overpriced, disappointing, tasteless, bland food we were ever served in an FBD hotel. We were served, what we were told was Vegetable soup. It was the greenest, most watery, unlike vegetable soup ever. When I asked the waitress to double check what the soup was because it certainly wasn't vegetable soup, we were told it was Potato and Leek soup. It was the most unusual colour, texture and taste. It was more like green water served with hard brown bread. We paid €9 each for this!
Breakfast was very disappointing too as was our dinner.
On a positive note - the spa area is lovely and very relaxing. The treatments are quite expensive but it is a TREATment.
The staff are a huge asset to this hotel. The manager in particular in the Seven bar was extremely friendly and helpful.
My end note is - I wouldn't stay in The Heritage hotel again nor would I recommend it purely down to the food and the cold.
