Package holiday operator TUI has today unveiled a new prototype gadget designed to make a trip to the beach less fussy, and less sandy!
Dubbed the ‘Sand Shaker,’ the platform uses vibration technology to shake off stubborn grains of sand in just seconds, the European company explained in a statement.
The device is being tested this summer. TUI says it wants to send beachgoers home with happy memories, not sandcastles in their bags and clothes.
According to TUI research beach holidays are Britain’s favourite getaway, but, also, sand is seen as one of the biggest irritations too.
More than half of those surveyed by TUI (54%) dread cleaning it up, and a third (35%) say it’s more trouble than it’s worth.
The inconvenience extends well beyond the shoreline, 44% of guests surveyed by TUI reported that they would still find sand three days later in unexpected places such as swimming shorts pockets, kids’ ears, and even nappies.
“When we found that the most wonderful family day out frequently ends with the most frustrating family clean up, we knew we had to do shake things up – quite literally," said TUI UK & Ireland managing director Neil Swanson.
"Sand should only be found on the beach and not in clothes, suitcases, or beds.”
If testing goes well, the Sand Shaker could become a staple at resorts and coastal destinations, TUI revealed.
