Jet2 tells passengers not to worry or pay extra ahead of new European hand luggage rules

Jet2 has moved to reassure holidaymakers that its hand luggage allowance will be untouched by incoming European rules on cabin baggage, with chief executive Steve Heapy saying the changes make no practical difference to how the carrier already operates.

The measures, set by the European Commission and due to come into force in 2027, are designed to give passengers greater transparency around cabin baggage allowances across the airline industry and to make fares easier to compare when booking.

While some airlines charge extra to bring hand luggage onboard, Jet2 customers already receive a free 10kg allowance as standard alongside a personal item. The company said 80% of customers cite that inclusion as a key reason for choosing to fly with it.

"For Jet2 customers, these new rules change nothing because we have always believed in doing the right thing by customers when it comes to hand luggage," Heapy said.

"Holidaymakers should not have to pay extra or figure out complicated rules just to bring their essentials on board."

He added that the company welcomes any move helping customers better understand what is included in the price of their flight.
