Disneyland Paris has confirmed one of the most requested changes in the resort's history: Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain will close at the end of 2027, and following a refurbishment lasting several months, the attraction will return as Space Mountain – De la Terre à la Lune.

Space Mountain – De la Terre à la Lune originally opened at Disneyland Paris in 1995 as a Jules Verne–inspired coaster that launched guests toward the Moon from a 22-metre Columbiad Cannon.
When it opened in 1995, the original Space Mountain – De la Terre à la Lune set a new standard for what a Disney coaster could be, a blend of thrills, world-first engineering, retro-futuristic design and a genuine literary premise drawn from Jules Verne's From the Earth to the Moon.
Guests were launched from the 22-metre Columbiad Cannon and, for a generation of European fans, the attraction became the definitive version of Space Mountain.
The reimagined version shifts the 1995 story slightly rather than restoring it wholesale.
Guests will now travel to an idealised period of the very first voyages to the Moon, rendered in the steampunk register that defines Discoveryland. It's a subtle but meaningful retelling for a new audience.
What's changing
The Space Mountain – De la Terre à la Lune refurbishment will rework the attraction's indoor sets, queue, effects and scenic details.
Disney plans to bring back composer Steve Bramson's original score, in remastered form.
Beyond extensive technical work and maintenance upgrades, the refurbishment is also set to cover indoor sets and props, reworked to bring the mountain back to its original vision; an enhanced queue, redesigned so guests can once again watch the trains in motion (a much-loved element of the original layout that draws riders into the story before they board); and new effects, including enhancements to the famous blast sequence out of the Columbiad Cannon.
What Imagineering says
Walt Disney Imagineering Paris highlights this as a celebration of the original classic, rather than a straight restoration.
Keith Rector, Senior Manager, Creative Art Direction at Walt Disney Imagineering Paris, described reimagining the attraction as both an honour and a challenge, noting that the new version stays true to the spirit and legacy of the original voyage while making use of the innovations introduced over the years.
Imagineers have been clear that this is not simply a restoration project.
The aim is to celebrate the classic while enhancing it, combining the original vision with more than 30 years of technological advancement, including the state-of-the-art exterior dome lighting installed in 2025.
Part of a bigger plan
The Space Mountain refurbishment forms part of 'New Magic', the recently launched Disneyland Paris programme aimed at improving the guest experience and refreshing classic attractions across the resort.
Most recently, the programme delivered enhanced scenery along the banks of Rivers of the Far West in Frontierland, based on original designs by Disney Legend and Imagineer Marc Davis.
Other projects sit at different stages of development, and the Paris team expects to unveil them in phases.

Disneyland Paris confirmed two further projects alongside Space Mountain: a Lion King water attraction under construction at Disney Adventure World, and a brand-new daytime parade arriving in 2028.
The Lion King attraction is taking shape at Disney Adventure World. Construction is underway on the first-ever immersive world themed to the film. The ride is a water attraction entered through caves beneath a 120-foot-high Pride Rock, telling the full story of Simba's journey from cub to king, including his final confrontation with Scar, via Audio-Animatronics figures, special effects and three slopes with a 52-foot drop. It will be among the largest attractions at the resort.
A brand-new daytime parade arrives in 2028. The first new daytime procession at Disneyland Park since 2017, created uniquely for Disneyland Paris. Mickey Mouse and pals lead, with new floats carrying the Genie and Jasmine from Aladdin, Tiana from The Princess and the Frog, Rapunzel from Tangled and Miguel from Coco. It has required more than 10,000 hours of research and technical development and nearly 225 sketches of costumes, wigs and makeup.

Walt Disney World
Walt Disney World's D23 2026 announcements spanned all four parks, led by a named and storylined Villains Land at Magic Kingdom, the return of Carousel of Progress, Tropical Americas at Animal Kingdom and a rethought Spaceship Earth at EPCOT.
Magic Kingdom's Villains Land was given a name, an original storyline — a corrupted Wishing Well spreading poisoned magic through a dark forest — and two headliners: a Maleficent coaster through enchanted briars that Imagineers claim will attempt things never tried before, and a Magic Mirror dark ride into his Mirror Realm.
Carousel of Progress returns late spring 2027 with Jamie Lee Curtis and Bryan Cranston joining as Sarah and John, all four scenes reset to new decades, and a Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic opening the show.
At Animal Kingdom, Tropical Americas is nearly fully revealed: Antonio's Fiesta de Encanto (ride vehicles built from Casita's furniture, 50-plus Colombian animal species, returning voice cast), Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent (with an animatronic modelled on Harrison Ford himself) and El Carrusel de los Animalitos.
Elsewhere in the park, the Expedition Everest Yeti is being brought back to life, announced with a Gloria Gaynor performance of "I Will Survive."
At EPCOT, Spaceship Earth gets its first update in nearly two decades, shifting from human communication to human connection, and Dreamfinder and Figment return together for the first time since 1998.
Piston Peak gets Cars Ridge Run Rally and Miss Fritter's Daredevil Spin-Along, and Monstropolis opens at Hollywood Studios in 2027 with an original Randy Newman song.
Disney Cruise Line
Disney Cruise Line will launch the Disney Believe in 2027 and follow it with an entirely new class of ships in 2029. The Disney Believe sets sail in 2027, with Moana greeting guests in the Grand Hall, Tinker Bell on the bow and Buzz and Woody on the stern. Looking further out, an entirely new class of ships arrives in 2029 — sized between Disney's classic and newest vessels, and intended to unlock destinations the current fleet can't easily reach.
Everywhere else
Disney's parks outside Florida and Paris each gained major projects at D23 2026, from a doubled Avengers Campus at Disneyland Resort to the world's first Spider-Man land at Shanghai Disney Resort.
Disneyland Resort: Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab both open in 2028, doubling Avengers Campus, with Iman Vellani, Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr. and Brie Larson reprising roles. The first-ever Coco ride arrives at California Adventure, picking up a year after the film with a boat journey through Miguel's memories.
Tomorrowland at Disneyland park is being reimagined. And 2027 brings the return of "Remember… Dreams Come True," an updated original "World of Color" and the "Magic Happens" parade.
Tokyo Disneyland: Space Mountain: Earthrise — a new take on the mountain that turns the view back toward Earth as part of a reimagined Tomorrowland — plus Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue, bringing Wreck-It Ralph to the park.
Hong Kong Disneyland: a new Avengers Pavilion housing Avengers Research Testing Labs, with a Quinjet landing platform alongside.
Shanghai Disney Resort: the world's first land dedicated entirely to Spider-Man, with a new coaster, Spider-Bots and 20-plus murals by local artists.
