Ryanair passengers may breathe a little easier and bring a bit more with them, as the airline today announced that it is increasing the amount of carry-on it will allow on its flights.
The budget European airline said it is rolling out larger carry-on bag sizers at all 235 airports.
From today, every passenger may bring one free under-seat personal bag up to 40 × 30 × 20 cm, which Ryanair says is 33% bigger than the European standard (of 40 × 30 × 15 cm).
It maintains, however, that the free carry-on bag must still fit beneath the seat in front, and not go into the overhead lockers.
The airline confirmed that guests who want to bring a second small carry-on can continue to do so by purchasing Priority Boarding, and checked bags are still available as optional add-ons during booking.
"Our bag sizers at all airports have now been “resized” to accommodate this bigger, free carry-on bag," said Ryanair chief marketing officer Dara Brady.
"We hope our customers will enjoy these bigger, free carry-on bag sizes, but any passenger who fails to comply with these new generous limits, will be required to pay the checked in bag fee at the boarding gate.”
For budget-minded passengers, the change should make short trips and mini-breaks a bit easier, and boarding Ryanair a little less stressful.
