American Airlines has announced a next-generation upgrade to the seatback entertainment on its 'narrowbody' fleet, with new screens inbound in 2028.
The upgraded entertainment screens will be installed in the airline's new Airbus and Boeing aircraft deliveries, as well as a program of retrofits on existing aircraft.
The new screens will offer large-format displays, 4K resolution, expanded content partnerships, personalized recommendations and interactive flight maps, plus USB‑C fast charging and Bluetooth audio at every seat.
At the same time, American will also install Starlink high‑speed Wi‑Fi on narrowbodies beginning in 2027, and expects full installation of the next‑generation seatback platform fleetwide by early next decade.

“We’re making one of the most significant investments in the onboard experience in our history,” American’s Chief Customer Officer Heather Garboden said.
The airline also plans to raise the share of premium and Main Cabin Extra seats on narrowbodies from approximately 25% today to approximately 40% by retrofitting aircraft and configuring incoming jets, including an extra row of First Class on A319 and A320 aircraft, 24 First Class seats on incoming Boeing 737 MAX 10s and reconfigured A321neos.
