Walt Disney Imagineering team is set to transform a popular part of Disney World's Hollywood Studios park.

Disney World has announced that the Star Wars: Launch Bay building will be rebooted to celebrate Disney Animation. The revamped area is slated to open in 2026. Topped by Mickey’s iconic Sorcerer Hat, the new space will draw inspiration from Walt Disney Animation Studios and the short film “Once Upon a Studio”.

It will invite guests to step into a working animation studio where characters spring to life.

Inside the Production Gallery, classic portraits animate before visitors’ eyes, while the Screening Theater will debut a new short film for all ages.

Guests will be able to learn to sketch their favourite characters in hands‑on drawing sessions and then meet those characters in person.

“Our film came from the heart and from a desire of all the Disney Animation artists wanting to celebrate our artistic accomplishments and a passion for the studio’s legacy,” said director Trent Correy, underscoring the project’s heartfelt origins.

Next to the studio building, “Drawn to Wonderland” offers an indoor playground inspired by Mary Blair’s concept art for Alice in Wonderland.

It will feature oversized flower gardens with musical instruments, a Mad Tea Party playset, and a Tulgey Wood exploration area promising delight for younger guests.

The area around the building, the 'Animation Courtyard' will be reimagined into a shaded, landscaped outdoor hub perfect for relaxing, snacking, or impromptu fun.

To allow construction works, Animation Courtyard, Star Wars: Launch Bay, and Disney Jr. Play and Dance! will close on 25 September.

Star Wars Launch Bay is a stalwart favourite 'meet and greet' area at the Hollywood Studios park, but has been somewhat overtaken by the deep immersion and 'roaming' character experiences since the park's Galaxy's Edge expansion in 2019.
